Create your categories before you create your POS items (each POS item requires a category).
Note: The Earned category is included in the app; you must create all other categories, based on the items you serve.
Categories determine how your POS items are grouped in the menus. When you create a new POS item, the item is assigned to a category. On your menus, each category is represented by a column. To help cashiers quickly identify which column to select when entering items, a color is assigned to each category.
When you create a category, you can enable the Auto Sale feature—a sales mode that allows cashiers to automatically sell meals to students without entering menu items. When the cashier enters the student’s PIN, the first item that is assigned to the category is automatically sold to the student. The Auto Sale feature must be enabled in order to use this feature (Admin > Schools, POS tab, Terminals section).
Note: If a student does not know their PIN, the cashier can search for the student’s name without leaving Auto Sale mode. When the cashier presses the Insert button, the student lookup screen appears. When the cashier locates the proper student, the correct item will be auto sold to the student and the auto sale functionality will continue.
