1. Go to POS > Items.
2. Click the icon (Add New Item). The
New screen appears.
3. Enter POS item information:
• Item Number: This field is auto populated with the next highest number available. You can overwrite this number with an alphanumeric value.
• Item Description: The item description will appear on the menu button (keep the description concise). You might consider using all caps for visibility (for example, BREAKFAST).
•Category: Select an option from the drop-down list to assign the item to a category. You can select more than one option. To remove an item from the field, click the X to the right of the item.
• Meal: Check this checkbox if the item makes up a reimbursable meal. Items named LUNCH and BREAKFAST are often marked as a Meal.
• Unit Cost: Specify the wholesale cost of the item.
• Adult Price: Specify the Adult a la carte price.
• Student Price: Specify the Student a la carte price.
• Taxable: This checkbox is checked by default. Taxable applies only to Adult sales and only if you set up tax tables.
• Active: Check this checkbox if the item is active and can be assigned to a menu. Uncheck the checkbox if you do not want to display the item.
• Premium: Check this checkbox to use the Student Price for Full Pay students. The Student Price must be higher than the Full Pay eligibility price. Free and Reduced students will be charged based on their eligibility.
• Always Allow Charging: Check this checkbox to allow patrons to charge the item to their meal account. This option is primarily used for milk.
•Allergens: Select the items that have allergies associated with them (for example, Eggs, Peanuts, Shrimp). When the items are scheduled, they can be flagged as possible allergies associated to the student selected on the POS sales screen.
To remove an item from the field, click the X to the right of the item.
The allergens that appear in the Allergens drop-down list are linked to the list of allergens entered under Inventory > Inventory Management > Allergens.
4. Click Update. (Click Cancel if you do not want to add the new item.)
Note: If the description you entered in the Item Description field already exists, a message similar to the following will appear when you click Update: Duplicate Item Description: Adult Lunch. Click OK and enter a different description.
