Task 3: Enter Measures and Nutrients

Attaching to a CN database item will populate the Nutritional facts on the Nutrition tab. CN items cannot be edited, however you may choose not to use the CN database and enter nutrient facts according to the item’s label and serving size. You are only required to enter the nutrient information as required by USDA which includes Calories, Sodium, and Saturated Fat; however, all the nutrients are listed, allowing you to populate these fields.

1.  Go to Inventory > Inventory Management > Master Inventory.

2.  Locate the item for which you want to enter measures and nutrients. Click More Details.

3.  On the Vendors tab, enter the Broken Unit Measure in grams or ounces, which should equal the Broken Unit Description.

EXAMPLE: Can (#10)=111 oz.

4.  On the Measures tab, enter information in the following fields:

    Description: Enter a description.

Measure Type: Select Weight Based or Volume Based from the drop-down list. Weight based means it will always weigh the same every time it is placed on the scale. Volume based can be different, for example, a cup of cement vs. a cup of popcorn.

    Value: Specify a value.

Unit: Select Grams or Ounces from the drop-down list.

Note: If your measure weighs differently than a standard measure, you can edit the standard measure weight. Click the Include Standard button to access the Include Standard Measures screen. Check the checkbox next to the measures you want to use (Ounce, Pound, Gram); the measures will rescale based on your edits.

5.  You can add nutrient Information:

On the Measures tab, click the Copy Nutritional Info button. Select an item from the Item drop-down list and select an option from the Measure drop-down list, if appropriate. The Nutrition Facts are calculated based on your selections. Click Copy to copy the information to the list on the Measures tab.

On the Measures tab, click the Attach CN item button. Select the appropriate CN item to populate the nutritional facts on the Nutritional tab. Options are provided to attach the item, copy the selected item, and attach multiple items.

On the Nutritionals tab, select an option from the Measure drop-down list and enter information in the Nutrition Facts fields. Calories, Saturated Fat, and Sodium are required by the USDA. To enter the value as a percentage, click the % sign and enter the value.

Note: The percent Daily Value (%DV) calculation should be used only with the traditional (prior to CN23) Nutrition Facts labels. Using the %DV calculation with the current (CN24 and up) Nutrition Facts labels will result in inaccurate nutrient values.

6.  On the Meal Patterns tab, enter the serving size in the Serving Size field and select a measure from the drop-down list. Enter values per your CN label.

7.  Click Save.
