Before creating recipes and menus, you must first make sure your items are assigned nutrient information. Nutrient information can be linked to an item from the Child Nutrition (CN) database or manually entered from nutrient labels. The Child Nutrition Database (CN-DB) is produced and updated by the USDA yearly for use in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. The data is collected on the following 18 nutrients: calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, dietary fiber, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, potassium, iron, ash, total sugars, and moisture, which is used for nutrient analysis of school lunch and breakfasts.
